“Going to a different country was always a dream for me, but I never thought that I would play softball and represent the United States,” said Emilee Modrzejewski. “I feel very fortunate and proud to have had the opportunity to showcase my talents, play in front of other college coaches, and make friends with teammates from across the country. Australia was a great experience and I would love to see others have this life changing experience. I am very grateful to my parents and coaches who made this experience possible.
Team America along with ACIS (American Council for International Students) coordinate all player recommendations and formulate teams. Throughout the year, coaches and players meet on Google to communicate travel plans and spend time as a team. Once at their destination, staff and players get down to business to tour all the country has to offer. Australia trip included Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, yoga on the beach, surf lessons on Brisbane’s Gold Coast, kayaking with dolphins, Bondi Beach, Sydney flight and city tour, Opera House and a tournament softball game at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Stadium, where Team USA won the gold medal.
Coach Jen Johnson’s Team USA took silver in the tournament.
“Team USA provided the opportunity to train talented athletes from across the United States. Touring Australia and winning silver medals were added bonuses that contributed to this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
This summer was Coach Christin Sobeck’s second tour with America’s Team.
“Last summer was my first trip with the American team organization to Spain,” he said. They run a program that is well organized, staffed with experienced staff and creates an opportunity that includes a great mix of culture, tourist fun and high level softball in an international environment. This summer’s trip to Australia was packed with adventurous and talented student-athletes and supporters from across the United States. It was amazing touring the beautiful Australian countryside, hanging out with local athletes and families and having the game of softball bring us all together.”
