BJP strongholds in Bengal’s Jangal Mahal region to go to polls
Jangal Mahal region, a focal point for identity politics, elects eight representatives to the Lok Sabha from the constituencies of Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, and Bishnupur.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured five out of the eight seats, while the TMC won the remaining three. According to an election official, 1.45 crore voters, including 73.63 lakh men, 71.70 lakh women, and 133 persons of the third gender, are eligible for polling in 15,600 polling stations.
