Looks like Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is really going to earn that “R” rating

Of the various things Christopher Nolan likes to film—explosions, things moving backwards, surprisingly angular men—human sexuality tends to rank pretty low. However, that could be about to change, as both Nolan and (very angular) Star Cillian Murphy has confirmed that Nolan’s next film oppenheimer she’ll dive pretty deeply into her subject’s sex life, including, for a recent guardian interview with murphy“extended full nudity for Murphy and Florence Pugh.” That’s in addition to what is described as “Complicated” scenes between Murphy and his A quiet place looks. II co-star Emily Blunt, who plays Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty; we have no earthly idea how “complicated” means in this circumstance, but Murphy described them as “pretty heavy” and then said he was sworn to secrecy about everything else, so… yeah.

Nolan, for his part, seemed quite pleased to introduce the romance and sex further. in his usual bag of tricks, a necessity, given the complicated love life of the real Robert Oppenheimer. (He and Pugh’s character, Jean Tatlock, had a long on-off relationship that also introduced him to communist teachings for the first time.and the started dating Kitty while she was still married to another man). Nolan recently said cabling that the relationship stuff in oppenheimer “It’s as strong as I’ve ever been,” and while that still isn’t saying much, romance-wise—Leonardo DiCaprio and the Brain Ghost of Marion Cotillard in BeginningChristian Bale and Katie Holmes/Maggie Gyllenhaal in the dark Knight movies, Scarlett Johansson’s character in The prestigeand that is kind of that—It will continue to be interesting to see him apply his undeniable eye for a striking image to something a bit more intimate this time around.
