Los Angeles Dodgers hit by injury blow to key man hours before must-win Philadelphia Phillies playoff game

The Los Angeles Dodgers have removed pitcher Tanner Scott from their roster, just hours before their crucial game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Dodgers will take on the Phillies in Game 4 of their NLDS showdown, with Los Angeles able to seal the series if they win on Thursday night.

However, they will have to do so without left-handed relief pitcher Scott, who reportedly underwent an abscess incision on Wednesday in his lower body.

Dodgers head coach Dave Roberts said: ‘As I understand it, it was an abscess (incision), some type of lower-body minor procedure. He’s recovering well and it took place last night.’

The Dodgers have since confirmed that Scott will be replaced by fellow left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski on the roster for Thursday night.

The good news for Dodgers fans, however, is that Roberts refused to rule Scott out of a potential World Series, should they get there.

‘I wouldn’t close that door,’ Roberts said. ‘I still feel that the World Series — if we’re fortunate enough to get there, earn our way there — then he’ll be available.’

At the start of the year, Scott signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the Dodgers – however has struggled to meet the expectations that were placed upon him.

Throughout his 61 appearances for the Dodgers, Scott had an 4.74 ERA and blew 10 of his 33 save opportunities.

Meanwhile, following the All-Star break, things only got worse. He then had a 6.92 ERA as he battled with an elbow injury.

Whereas Wrobleski had a 4.32 ERA across 24 appearances for LA this season and finished the regular season with three consecutive scoreless outings.
