SEATTLE — FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced late Monday evening on social media that Lumen Field will host six matches in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Infantino is in Seattle and scheduled to tour Lumen Field and the Sounders training facility in Renton in a whistle-stop tour through the city.
In the Instagram post that Infantino published Monday evening, he announced three group-stage Sounders matches will also be played at Lumen Field.
“As we herald a new era of club football on the global stage in 2025 when we #TakeItToTheWorld, followed by the most global and inclusive FIFA World Cup ever in 2026, where six matches will also be played at this fantastic venue, I am looking forward to watching our passionate fans breaking all the noise records here in Seattle while showing how #FootballUnitesTheWorld,” Infantino wrote on the Instagram post.

It is not believed that Infantino has ever been to the city, even though FIFA has awarded Seattle multiple games for the aforementioned Club World Cup in 2025 and six matches for the World Cup in 2026.
Seattle World Cup Organizing Committee Chairman Peter Tomozawa has said that the six World Cup matches will be the equivalent of hosting six Super Bowls in a month and global attention.

Recently, the organizing committee announced a daily fan celebration will be held at Seattle Center. The committee has offered up the Renton training facility as a base camp for an international squad in 2026.
The Club World Cup will include the Seattle Sounders and top clubs from around the world.
