Drivers have been warned to expect long delays this morning after a serious collision occurred on a major motorway near Heathrow Airport.
The M3 is currently operating with three lanes closed eastbound in Surrey between J3 (Lightwater) and J2 (M25) due to the crash.
The road is operating with roughly 90 minutes of delays this morning due to a collision involving a van and a motorcycle.
All emergency services are in attendance, including Surrey Police as well as National Highways Traffic Officers, who are assisting with traffic management.
Normal traffic conditions are expected to return to the roads between 10:45 and 11am later this morning.
The agency shared: “Recovery has been arranged. If this closure impacts your planned route, please allow extra journey time as there is over eight miles of congestion on approach.

The RAC explained how junction 2 is a particularly congested route due to it connecting to the M25 at junction 12, and the M3 at junction 2.
“With heavy traffic and lanes to navigate as the routes split, it’s important to be alert and plot your route early,” the insurer detailed.
Meanwhile, the RAC stated that junction 3 near Lightwater can get congested due to road users making their connection into West London from the M4 down the A322.

Updating drivers, National Highways shared on X: “On the M3 eastbound between J3 (Lightwater) and J2 (M25), one (of four) lanes remain closed due to a two-vehicle collision.
“Recovery remains en route. There are delays of 90 minutes and eight miles of congestion on the approach.”
The M3 spans across the south-west and connects Sunbury-on-Thames in Surrey to Southampton in Hampshire. The motorway stretches across 59 miles and is one of the main commuter routes in and out of London.
