Magnitude 6.3 earthquake hits northern Japan, no tsunami warning issued

TOKYO: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 hit northern Japan on Friday (May 15), the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The epicentre of the earthquake was off the coast of Miyagi prefecture at a depth of 50km, the agency said, adding that no tsunami warning had been issued.
