Main Sierra storm: ‘Extraordinarily harmful to unimaginable journey circumstances’

With a blizzard warning going into impact within the Sierra Nevada later this week, officers are asking the general public to remain off the roads.

The Nationwide Climate Service stated the incoming storm, which is anticipated to dump wherever from 5 to 10 toes of snow above 5,000 toes between Thursday and Sunday, will make mountain journey “extraordinarily harmful.”

“Extraordinarily harmful to unimaginable journey circumstances with prolonged highway closures possible,” the climate service stated in an announcement. “Widespread blowing snow will create blizzard circumstances with white-out circumstances and close to zero visibility. Very robust winds, mixed with heavy snow may trigger in depth tree harm and prolonged energy outages.”

The blizzard warning for the Sierra will likely be in impact from 4 a.m. Thursday till 10 a.m. Sunday. The worst blizzard circumstances are anticipated Friday into Saturday morning, in keeping with the climate service.
