Maine in Tropical Storm Philippe forecast cone ‘disorganized’

All of Maine is once again in the forecast cone of a tropical system. Although Tropical Storm Philippe is still nearly a thousand miles away, its forecast cone has it approaching the state coast. As of 5 pm Wednesday, the storm is 295 miles from St. Thomas and 695 miles from Bermuda with winds of 40 miles per hour. Philippe is moving at 12 mph. Despite bringing heavy rain to the British and US Virgin Islands, the national hurricane says Philippe is a disorganized storm. It is expected to gain speed as it heads north on Thursday and Friday. As Philippe approaches Maine, it will interact with a developing storm approaching from the west. Depending on the exact interaction, they may experience increased rainfall and wind gusts due to the combined storms. The timing of the storms would bring rain to the area Saturday and perhaps into Saturday night. Maine’s Total Weather team of meteorologists will continue to track both Philippe and the storm and will detail the forecast and impacts as it approaches.
