Major Flight Disruption Across U.S. After FAA Outage

Air travel was disrupted all over the country Wednesday morning after the Federal Aviation Administration reported an outage of a system used to notify pilots of important information.

The FAA said in an advisory that its Notice to Air Missions system had “failed” and there was no estimate for restoration of the service. The system provides urgent advisory information to flight personnel about things like airport conditions, runway closures and obstacles.

As of 6:45 a.m., 1,162 flights within, into or out of the U.S. had been delayed, and 93 canceled, according to the FlightAware tracker.

United Airlines temporarily grounded all U.S. flights, Bloomberg reported.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas said the outage was causing ground stops there and at other airports throughout the country, and advised passengers to check their flight status before traveling.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
