Major motorway completely closed after huge crash

The M60 and M66 motorways are facing long delays after an emergency as police, fire crews and paramedics attend the scene of a collision. The M66 is completely closed in both directions at junction four for Simister Island on the M60. Two lanes are shut on the M60 southbound side of the motorway from junction three for Hollins to junction four for Simister Island.

A National Highways spokesperson said at around 10pm last night: “The M66 is closed southbound between J3 and M60/M62 J18 Simister Island. The northbound carriageway is closed within M60/M62 J18 We are assisting Greater Manchester Police in responding to a collision.”
