A major UK theme park has reopened today after being forced to close – days before the busy August bank holiday weekend. Drayton Manor Resort, near Tamworth in Staffordshire, shut for the whole of Thursday after heavy rain and thunderstorms caused flooding across parts of the West Midlands.
But the popular attraction confirmed this morning that it is welcoming visitors again, with 40 rides and attractions listed as open today. Announcing the news on Facebook, Drayton Manor said: “WE’RE OPEN! – Friday 28th August 2026. We’re back and ready for Bank Holiday Weekend fun! We’ll be keeping a close eye on the weather and keeping you updated if anything changes. Your safety is always our top priority.” Visitors have been urged to check the resort’s Ride Availability page before travelling for the latest updates. Among the rides open today are River Rapids, Stormforce 10, The Wave, Maelstrom, Gold Rush and Accelerator, alongside dozens of attractions in Thomas Land.
Three attractions are currently listed as closed. Air Race is closed for the season and Spencers Outdoor Play Area is permanently closed, while Harold’s Helicopter Tours is also listed as closed.
The reopening comes after severe weather caused disruption across the West Midlands on Wednesday night and into Thursday.
Emergency services were called to flooding across Birmingham, with six fire crews deployed to what West Midlands Fire Service described as “significant flooding” affecting Curbar Road, Thornbridge Avenue and Haddon Road.
The Environment Agency also issued a flood warning for Perry Brook in Birmingham, meaning flooding was expected, while further lower-level flood alerts were in force elsewhere.
Around an inch of rain fell in some parts of the West Midlands during Wednesday evening’s thunderstorms, while footage showed floodwater reaching homes and vehicles becoming stranded.
Announcing Thursday’s closure, Drayton Manor said: “Due to adverse weather and flooding, Drayton Manor Resort will be closed today.
We know many of you were looking forward to visiting, and we’re very sorry for the disappointment and inconvenience this causes.
