Man accused of breaking into Myrtle Beach home with victim inside

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A man is in jail after a break-in at a Myrtle Beach home.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department was called on Sunday to an apartment on 63rd Avenue North for a burglary in progress.

When police arrived, they learned the front door was locked, and they had to force their way inside, according to an affidavit.

The victim told police that she fell asleep upstairs and woke up to the sounds of “rustling and a voice” coming from downstairs.

The affidavit states that this shows the suspect, identified as Tarek Council, was going through the victim’s belongings for some time.

The victim said she was terrified to go downstairs, and she texted her friends and family to call 911.

The victim didn’t call 911 herself, as she was worried that the suspect “would realize she was upstairs” and thought, “harm would come to her if that happened,” the affidavit reads.

According to the document, the victim said she didn’t know Council and didn’t give him permission to come in.

MBPD is charging Council with first-degree burglary.

He is booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center under no bond.
