The Brunswick man was arrested following the alleged incident that occurred at Barkly Square Shopping Centre in Brunswick just after 8am on Monday.
He has today been charged with attempted murder, intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury, making threats to kill and theft.
He is expected to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
A 60-year-old Brunswick man was standing in the checkout queue of the supermarket on Monday morning when he heard yelling behind him, police said.
“He turned around and was allegedly stabbed in the upper body by a man who was in the queue,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“The victim moved away and the alleged offender ran from the store.”
Paramedics treated three men for injuries at the scene before taking them to hospital in stable conditions.
