A man has been charged after he allegedly tried to impersonate a police officer in an attempt to steal money from a Sydney business owner.

Police allege the 51-year-old lied about being an officer to a 36-year-old business owner, using the false position of authority to manipulate the man into giving him money over a two-week period.
