Man hospitalised after allegedly scaling wall to escape Queensland quarantine

A man has ended up in hospital with leg injuries after allegedly trying to scale the outside of a building to escape Queensland hotel quarantine.

Police said the Victorian man arrived in Queensland this morning and was placed in hotel quarantine as per current COVID-19 requirements for the state.

Officers allege the man attempted to leave the hotel by scaling the outside of the building just after 11am.

They said the 29-year-old fell and injured his legs as a result.

The man was taken to Cairns Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

An investigation into the alleged incident is ongoing.

Yesterday, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed Queensland would also introduce a new “traffic light” system for all arrivals from 1am today.

The cluster of cases was uncovered at a Cairns Pathology lab within the Cairns Hospital precinct.
