MEA to house governments: they want action, not security

Addressing the weekly briefing on Friday, Foreign Ministry official spokesman Arindam Bagchi said New Delhi expects host governments to take steps to prevent such incidents from recurring. “I think we’re not just interested in guarantees, I think we’d like to see action,” he said.

Bagchi said India had raised the issue with authorities in Canada, where the Indian High Commissioner was forced to cancel an appearance at an event.

“We hope that in any country our diplomats will be able to carry out their normal and legitimate diplomatic duties and that the host government will ensure an enabling environment to do so,” he said.
