Merlino lashes out at Commonwealth over vaccine shortages

Victoria's Acting Premier James Merlino has lashed out at the Commonwealth government over vaccine supply shortages following Monday’s Emergency National Cabinet meeting.

Mr Merlino says the state will need to endure vaccine scarcities during winter when it will be “striving to drive this outbreak into the ground”, while there will be a “mad rush” at the end of the year.

“We do know, for a period of time, it’s going to get worse in terms of the supply of the vaccine from the Commonwealth before it gets better,” Mr Merlino said.

He said there was a missed opportunity in July last year when the Commonwealth supposedly failed to make a sufficient arrangement with Pfizer.

Restrictions in Victoria are set to be further eased on Thursday.
