Britain is facing a dramatic change in the weather on Monday as bands of rain sweep across large parts of the country, with some downpours set to turn heavy. Met Office forecast maps show rain stretching across parts of the UK by Monday evening, while much of southern and south-east England looks set to escape the worst of the wet weather.
The change comes after temperatures soared above 37C in parts of the UK on Thursday amid another day of intense heat. Before 2026, the UK had recorded 37C or higher on only six occasions, compared with three times this year alone. Now the Met Office‘s UK outlook for Sunday to Tuesday looks much fresher with cooler conditions reaching the southeast by Sunday. The forecast states: “Fresher conditions reach the southeast by Sunday and generally staying dry into next week with sunny spells. Turning breezier in the northwest as various rain bands push in, perhaps heavy.” Forecast maps for Monday show rain concentrated across western and northern parts of the UK before becoming more widespread later in the day.
Rain is also forecast across Northern Ireland, Wales and parts of the Midlands.
By 10pm, a broad band of rain is shown stretching from the Western Isles and Highlands through Scotland and into northern England.
In Northern Ireland, the Met Office forecasts a dry start to Monday before rain spreads east across the country.
Some of the heaviest bursts appear across Scotland, northern England and Wales.
Much of southern England looks set to escape the worst, with London and large parts of the South East remaining dry.
The far South West also appears considerably drier, although some rain is shown around parts of south Wales.
