MG hits India with Tomahawk: new EV to begin deliveries in September 2026

The MG Hector Tomahawk crossover was launched in India. It is a global variant of the SAIC-made Wuling Starlight 560 SUV. The electric version of the Hector Tomahawk starts at 1,399,000 Indian rupees (14,675 USD) with a battery rental plan. This EV will begin deliveries in September.

The Wuling Starlight 560 was launched in China in January 2026 and is available as an ICE, PHEV, and BEV. Its petrol-powered variant costs 62,800 – 75,800 yuan (9,345 – 11,280 USD) domestically. The plug-in hybrid model is priced at 91,800 yuan (13,660 USD). The BEV variant costs 98,800 yuan (14,710 USD). According to China EV DataTracker, Wuling delivered 2,650 units of the PHEV and the BEV variants of the Starlight 560 in July 2026 in China.

The Wuling Starlight 560 entered India under a funky “Hector Tomahawk” name. It is worth noting that SAIC currently sells the regular petrol-powered MG Hector in the local market. This vehicle is a rebadged variant of the Baojun 530 crossover, which had been sold in China from 2018 to 2021. It seems like the “Hector Tomahawk” will become a more “striking” alternative to the old Hector.

The MG Hector Tomahawk is a mid-size SUV with dimensions of 4745/1850/1770 mm and a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. It is available with five- and seven-seat interior layout variants. The two-row car’s trunk offers a volume of 610 liters. The seven-seater version provides 528 liters with the third-row seats folded down.

The all-electric MG Hector Tomahawk adopts a single electric motor for 150 kW (201 hp) and 310 Nm. It is powered by a 69.2 kWh battery, suitable for 517 km of range. This pack can be charged from 30 to 80% in 35 minutes, supporting DC charging at up to 90 kW. However, it has a single-phase AC charger, which means only 7 kW home charging is available. As mentioned, this model became available for order at 1,399,000 Indian rupees (14,675 USD) with a battery rental plan of 4.9 rupees (5 cents) per km.

The plug-in hybrid variant of the MG Hector Tomahawk adopts a 1.5-liter petrol-powered naturally aspirated engine with a peak power of 78 kW (105 hp) paired with a 148 kW (198 hp) e-motor. Thanks to a 20.5 kWh battery, the Hector Tomahawk can be “thrown” to 115 km in all-electric mode. The combined range reaches 1,100 km, thanks to a 52-liter fuel tank. This version starts at 2,179,000 Indian rupees (22,860 USD), with a charge of 3.2 rupees (3 cents) per km.

It is worth noting that both models come standard with a large 15.35-inch center screen with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and an LCD instrument cluster. Its other features include the Infinity sound system, 256-color ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, gesture control, and voice control. It also has a surround-view camera system and the L2 assisted-driving system.
