Mixed government messages about migrants have left people baffled

A government graphic meant to warn migrants against coming to the UK has left many people confused.

Rishi Sunak‘s Twitter account posted an image that appeared to read “if you come to the UK illegally, you will be denied access to the UK’s modern day slavery system.”

It was published while the prime minister was holding a press conference in Downing Street, where he stood at a lectern. emblazoned with the words “stop the ships”to promote your immigration crackdown.

Many were left scratching their heads over the tweet and wondering if anyone had read it out loud before posting it.

The prime minister described his policy as “tough” but “necessary and just” as the government unveiled plans for new laws to curb Channel crossings.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that the laws will detain UK asylum seekers if they arrive by unauthorized means.

Asylum seekers arriving illegally would be detained and barred from returning for life after they were expelled. They would never be allowed to settle in the country or obtain citizenship.

But questions remain as to whether the plan is legal, with the Interior Minister brave sole admitting may violate international law since it could be “incompatible” with the European Convention on Human Rights.
