Morrisons confirms deal for major UK supermarket

Morrisons has confirmed a major new deal at one of its UK stores. Shoppers at its Telford store will be able to continue doing their laundry whilst grabbing groceries, as the machine’s operators have been granted permission to keep the unit on site.

ME Group International got planning permission for the installation of a self-service launderette facility and associated works at the supermarket in Lawley, Telford, and in July 2025, Telford and Wrekin Council gave temporary permission of one year for the launderette unit to allow it to “assess the impact” of it.

The unit next to the shop’s front entrance includes three machines: two for washing and one for drying.

A retrospective application has been submitted, following those installed at the Lawley site last year. According to the plans, the machines should be switched off between 10pm and 7am.

Agents for the launderette owners also told planners that the machines are designed to be maintenance-free and served by a network of more than 150 local engineers who aim to attend any breakdowns within 24 hours, and have scheduled monthly visits, Shropshire Star reports.

Planning officers have now granted retrospective permission, subject to conditions being adhered to.

Earlier this year Asda also introduced washing machines at its stores in partnership with ME Group International. The retailer confirmed the installation of 700 self-service laundry machines across various Asda sites.

The supermarket said that energy-efficient, high-speed drying machines accommodate everything from small loads to larger household loads and operate 24/7.
