In what has been a draining day for the family of Senzo Meyiwa, it has emerged that Kelly Khumalo is someone the police now have a beady eye upon. The entertainer and former partner of the Bafana Bafana skipper has been accused of paying money to a hitman at the time of Meyiwa’s murder – but these allegations are yet to be confirmed.

The developments came just hours after Meyiwma’s mother, Nthombifuthi, gave a heart-wrenching interview to Newzroom Afrika. She slammed the police for ‘covering-up’ certain elements of the case and didn’t believe that the suspects arrested on Monday had anything do with Senzo’s death. However, the matriarch did reveal she ‘had a fear’ of Ms. Khumalo.
In a leaked document – accidentally shared by the NPA on Tuesday – Kelly Khumalo’s cell phone records also came under scrutiny. She was accused of having contact with one of the five accused men who appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court. According to Nthombifuthi Meyiwa, her son’s then-girlfriend ‘knows more than what she’s letting on’:

“I’m scared of her. The same person who still refuses to tell the truth about what happened to my son. My biggest wish is to see the people who killed Senzo arrested and for the truth to come out completely. What hurts the most is the people who know very well what happened to my son.â€
“We know the whole truth, even the killer, but we keep seeing people blatantly lying about what happened to Senzo. These high-profile people who are blocking the movement of this case must just leave Bheki Cele’s team and AfriForum alone so that this matter can finally be put to rest. The people who did this should have nowhere to hide.â€
