MP Claire Hanna left red-faced as young daughter interrupts virtual Westminster meeting

SDLP MP Claire Hanna was left red-faced Wednesday morning after being interrupted during a virtual Westminster Committee meeting… by someone much younger than any elected representative.

uring a call with members of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee, Northern Ireland Office minister Robin Walker and NIO director Mark Lamour, Ms Hanna was attempting to ask a question relating to the government’s fiscal powers when her young daughter casually appeared at the bottom of the screen.

Not to be deterred, the SDLP rep managed to ask her question while wrangling with the youngster, while at the same time conceding: “Apologies, I have a young visitor,” to which Mark Lamour cheerfully greeted, “Good morning, young Hanna!”

The discussion briefly paused while Ms Hanna ushered her visitor out of the room, commenting: “I should keep some sweets in this room as a bribe.”

Robin Walker admitted his daughter too had attempted to join a few of his work calls in recent weeks, while Mr Lamour said: “I had my terrier join in on a call, which was quite interesting, and that’s not a euphemism for anything else.”
