Multiple dead after North Carolina mass shooting, State Bureau of Investigation says

Multiple people were killed, and at least one other was wounded Wednesday morning in what North Carolina authorities are calling a mass shooting at a home in rural Caswell County, officials said.

The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a call for service just before 8 a.m. at 352 Brooks Road in the Prospect Hill area, where they found multiple people who had been shot, including several who were killed. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, in an earlier statement, put the timing slightly later, saying the shooting occurred around 8:30 a.m. One person was transported to Duke University Hospital with a gunshot wound, and there were multiple other fatalities, according to the sheriff’s office and the SBI. 

Authorities have not released information about a possible suspect, WRAL reported, and the number of dead and the victims’ identities have not been made public. Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden requested assistance from the SBI shortly after deputies arrived, and state crime scene investigators were on scene processing evidence and interviewing witnesses while the sheriff’s office worked to notify next of kin, according to a report from WLOS.

Investigators said there is no threat to the general public and that the shooting was isolated to the Brooks Road address, Fox News reported.
