Murder probe launched as 75-year-old man stabbed to death in Putney

A murder investigation has been launched after a 75-year-old man was found dead following reports of a stabbing. 

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, it is believed he was known to the victim. He remains in police custody.

Police were called to a property on Deodar Road in Putney in the early hours of this morning following reports of a stabbing.

Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated a man for stab injuries. Sadly, despite the emergency services best efforts, he was pronounced dead on scene.

Although the police are awaiting formal identification the 75-year-olds next of kin have been made aware and are currently being supported by specialist officers.

A special post-mortem examination is due to take place today.

Detective Superintendent Amanda Mawhinney from the South West Command Unit which covers Putney assured the public that the force believe this to be an “isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public.”

The force are appealing to the local community to help them “understand what happened in the early hours of this morning”.
