On the top of my bucket list has always been to visit the Great Wall of China. To my great delight an opportunity came my way earlier this year to visit this wonder of the world as part of an eight-day excursion, which also included time in Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai.
To visit China you must apply for a visa. This requires filling out a form and submitting it in person to the Chinese consulate. Some of my fellow travellers from the Eastern States experienced problems getting their visa, but I had no such concerns, and my visa was ready to be picked up within a few days. The charge for my short-term visa was $185.
