Nets’ Kevin Durant to sit vs. Cavaliers on Friday for injury recovery

The Brooklyn Nets say star Kevin Durant will sit out the team’s Friday night matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of his ongoing recovery from Achilles tendon surgery nearly two years ago.

Durant logged 50:09 minutes in the team’s 147-135 loss in double overtime to the Cavaliers on Wednesday.

In his first campaign since rupturing his right Achilles tendon while starring for the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals vs. the Toronto Raptors, the 32-year-old has averaged 31.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists across 36.3 minutes in 12 games for the Nets.

Wednesday’s tilt vs. the Cavaliers was the unveiling of the Nets’ new Big Three, as Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden all shared the court for the first time since the latter was acquired from the Houston Rockets in a blockbuster trade.
