Nets’ Kyrie Irving fined $50K for violating health and safety protocols

Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving has been fined $50,000 for violating the NBA’s health and safety protocols, the league announced Friday.

Per a release from the NBA, Irving’s fine stems from him having attended a private indoor party last weekend. The league’s COVID-19 protocols bar players from “attending indoor social gatherings of 15 or more people or entering bars, lounges, clubs or similar establishments.”

Irving will forfeit salary for games he misses due to his required five-day quarantine period, and will be able to return to team activities on Jan. 16.

More to come.
