New York Fashion Week ‘soundtrack’ hit all the right catwalk chords [watch]

Walking down the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) runway doesn’t seem like the easiest thing to do. The walk might be a bit easier with an old-school track or lively pop jam playing in the background.

Have a look at what music was a hit at the recent NYFW.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

This year’s NYFW kicked off on Wednesday 8 September and ended on Sunday 12 September. NYFW returned to an in-person event after a virtual affair last year due to COVID-19.

Several designers showed off their amazing work at NYFW, including rising designer LaQuan Smith and Ulla Johnson, who was the first designer to secure the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for her show.

Another highlight of the exciting fashion event was supermodel Gigi Hadid’s return to the runway for American designer Brandon Maxwell.

Kerby Jean-Raymond’s 100-man fashion week choir

Although fashion is the most important aspect of NYFW, what is a fashion show without music? Amazing music that is!

Interestingly enough, there is music that was released years ago that still has fashion lovers grooving along the catwalk.

One designer who is always pulling out all the stops at his fashion shows is Kerby Jean-Raymond. The American designer is the founder of Pyer Moss and is rather fond of having choirs perform at his fashion shows.

Once the designer had a 100-man choir at one of his shows performing How Shall I See You Through My Tears from the musical The Gospel at Colonus which was first staged in 1983.

Watch his 2018/2019 NYFW show where the choice performed in all white, with their voices bringing life to all the clothes on show.

2021 NYFW MUSIC PLAYLIST

Dazed compiled a playlist of just a few of the songs played at the 2021 NYWF. The playlist for the 2021 NYFW was broad, to say the least. Models strutted down the runway to Britney Spears’ I’m a Slave 4 U and Madonna’s Like a Virgin

Brit musicians Planningtorock and Kate Bush’s music also featured at the prestigious fashion event.

The takeaway here is that fashion week is not ONLY about the fashion but about the music too! Who wouldn’t want to walk the runway to Britney Spears?

Here are some other tracks that were on the 2021 NYFW Playlist:

  • Janet Jackson – That’s The Way Love Goes
  • Dorian Electra, 645AR – happy
  • Ian Isiah – N.U.T.S
  • Club Eat – Lucky
  • Kim Petras – Future Starts Now
  • A. G. – 2021
  • Roxy Music – More Than This
