The Packers free up about $19.5 million with the reported release of center Elgton Jenkins, according to Over The Cap. They should now be more than $30 million under the cap after releasing Jenkins and trading defensive end Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday.
The writing was on the wall for Jenkins after the Packers extended center Sean Rhyan, who filled in admirably after Jenkins suffered a season-ending leg injury in Week 10 last season. Jenkins also turned 30 years old in December and his switch from left guard (where he was a two-time Pro Bowler) to center probably didn’t go as smoothly on the field as anyone inside the building had hoped.
This also means that quarterback Jordan Love, 27, is now the longest-tenured Packer. He was the team’s 2020 first-round pick, while Gary and Jenkins were the last two remaining 2019 draft picks.
