The incident took place at the Cliff Embassy in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district where Bajrang Dal activists led by Rajesh Gowda stormed the hotel and told people to leave.
Bajrang Dal activists stormed a hotel and detained a private party of nearly 80 people, mostly women, in Shivamogga on the night of March 17, claiming there was no place for Western culture in India.
The incident took place at the Cliff Embassy in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district, where Bajrang Dal activists led by Rajesh Gowda stormed the hotel and told customers to leave.
The police arrived at the hotel as soon as they learned of the incident.
Gowda said the Cliff Embassy Hotel’s Facebook page had a post about the ladies’ party being organized on Friday night. The team had informed the police to stop such activities, which “slandered Indian culture,” he added.
The police said they will register a complaint against the Bajrang Dal activists if the hotel management or the women present at the party say so.
Police denied stopping the party and said they intervened to prevent an adverse incident.
The hotel has a good reputation and has hosted high profile personalities including the staff of the Prime Minister’s Office during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Shivamogga.
