“Uddhav Thackeray, Sonia Gandhi or the head of Congress Mallikarjun Kharge and I will sit down together to discuss more about it,” he said in a shared seat.

The head of the Nationalist Congress Party, Sharad Pawar, has said he is not in the running to become prime minister, saying the opposition wants a leadership that works for the betterment of the country.

Speaking on Monday at a condolence gathering for Ram Takawale, the recently deceased vice-chancellor of Pune University, Pawar said opposition parties could face the small task of projecting a person as a prime ministerial candidate if they come together.

“I am making efforts to unite the opposition. I am not in the running to become prime minister as I am not running in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he told reporters.

On sharing a seat with Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT), who are part of Maha Vikas Aghadi, Pawar said, “Recently, a meeting was held at my residence. The leaders of Maha Vikas Aghadi will decide.”

“Uddhav Thackeray, Sonia Gandhi or the head of the Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge, and I will sit down together to discuss more about it,” he said, sharing seats.

The tenure of various civic bodies in Maharashtra ended in early 2022, but the polls were not held due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Lok Sabha elections are scheduled for 2024, and Maharashtra Assembly polls are also scheduled for late next year.
