That didn’t take long… RTS sets it up, Saab gets a hand to the final pass but it bounces right back up into the hands of his opposite number. Kodi Nikorima (remember when the Broncos thought he was of no use?) nails it from the sideline and we are locked up at 6-6.
Jason Saab wins the race to the ball after the early kick and at last they get some points after a few misfires. Great bit of daring play, Manly kick from deep in their territory off the scrum and Saab beats everyone to the ball. Ken Maumalo in game 100 must have felt 100 years old as Saab went straight past him… Manly lead 6-0.
He’s close, he’s over the line but he’s held up as well, Jazz Tevaga does a great job to get his hand under the ball. Then Croker gets some white line fever and tries to manouvre the ball to the ground and loses it. But Manly on top at the moment, even if the scoreboard says it’s still 0-0 with 13 minutes left in the half.
He probably won’t want that on replay too often. Had the open line, got his feet tangled up, tripped in the tackle, grounded short of the line then loses the ball. No try, still no score. Just some poor handling and late tackle options hurting both teams, who are just lacking that bit of crispness in the finish.
Looks like an ankle injury and doesn’t look good for him tonight. Some suggestion he won’t be back for the evening so an early blow here for the Sea Eagles. All locked up after 20 minutes, so at least we aren’t getting a blowout result. But can anyone score?
Jazz Tevaga just rung the bell of the Manly centre in a big way. Super tackle from outside-in and that sent the big fella flying. Fifteen minutes gone and still no score here but the Warriors sniffing around here near the Manly line.
End-to-end attacks and you get the feeling this is going to open up fairly soon. The 2021 season has taught us that so far and the Warriors now pressing hard, lots of second-phase play and you can just see the juice leaving the legs of both sides. A relieving penalty for the Sea Eagles here and they keep the clean sheet for the moment.
A one-on-one steal, then a hard carry to take Manly deep into Warriors territory but Manly make the error and here go the Kiwis, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck starts the counterattack but that falls apart as well. Nice conditions in Gosford and some good enterprising play from both sides thus far. No score after six minutes.
Manly desperate for a win here, the Warriors in 11th with two wins and they cannot wait to get back to NZ with that travel bubble inbound.
Some changes for both sides of this opener tonight. Warriors are missing Addin Fonua-Blake, Bayley Sironen, Bunty Afoa with Kane Evans, Paul turner and Tom Ale into the mix, Josh Curran the extra man. Manly lose Cade Cust, Morgan Boyle and Moses Suli as Morgan Harper, Tevita Funa, Toafofoa Sipley and Zac Saddler (18th man) come into calculations. Kick off any moment now.
