Uh oh, Des won’t be happy!
32 min: The ref misses an incorrect Melbourne play-the-ball and a try to Chris Lewis results after a smart interchange of passes from Brandon Smith and Jahrome Hughes. Meaney adds the extras. Manly coach Des Hasler will be tearing his famous hair out. Storm 12-0.
No joy for Manly
28 min: Melbourne mount pressure on the Storm line but fail to turn it into points after a wayward pass in the slippery conditions is knocked on. Storm 6-0.
Take a bow, Manly
21 min: Melbourne camp themselves inside Manly’s 20m for several sets but the visitors’ defence holds firm. The Storm’s attack, it must be said, was very clunky. Twice they almost conceded obstruction penalties because of mix-ups between teammates.
Manly muscle up
Despite the early try, Manly are rattling the Storm with some crunching defence. But ball control is letting them down on the few occasions they’ve been deep in Melbourne’s half.
First blood
7 min: Manly winger Jorge Taufua spills a bomb and Cam Munster makes Manly pay, crossing from a scrum. Nick Meaney converts. Storm 6-0. Shaky start for Taufua, who is playing his first NRL game since 2020.
No try!
4 min: Melbourne’s Felise Kaufusi appeared to have opened the scoring after collecting the crumbs from a bomb but replays showed he put a foot in touch before grounding the Steeden. Nice work from Many fullback Reuben Garrick to stop the try. 0-0.
Penalty Melbourne
2 min: Early penalty gives Melbourne good field position and the first decent attacking opportunity of the match.
Take the tip!
Freddie and Joey run the rule over round 12.
Congratulations to 250-gamer Kieran Foran!
