NSW records 325 new cases, one death as Health Minister calls for calm

It comes as the first Pfizer doses for children are due to land in Australia before Christmas, with the Therapeutic Goods Administration expected to approve the vaccine for children aged between five and 11 before a January rollout.

“I’m hopeful within the next week we’ll have a decision from the TGA, and there are no red flags at this stage,” Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said on Friday.

“They’ll provide that advice, ATAGI will then provide their response, and we’re hopeful that if we’ve got two green lights we would commence the children’s paediatric doses in the first part of January.”

The first shipment of the 5 million paediatric doses secured by the federal government is expected to arrive in Australia before Christmas, before being batch-tested by the TGA early in the new year.
