Numerous fire departments respond to large fire in North Shore town

SALISBURY, Mass. —

Two people were injured as fire crews from numerous towns battled a five-alarm fire in Salisbury, Massachusetts, Friday night.

Salisbury fire Chief Scott Carrigan said the fire broke out at a home on Atlantic Avenue just before 7 p.m.

He said heavy smoke and flames were seen from a mile away and a third alarm was called for as crews arrived.

Carrigan said crews came across two people from the initial building who were injured with burns and were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A total of four buildings caught fire, bringing the response to five alarms, according to the chief.

He said several other buildings may have also incurred minor damage.

“We are very thankful it didn’t turn out worse than it was,” Carrigan said.

The chief said no firefighters were injured, and the crew was able to get the fire under control in about two hours.

A cause is not known at this time, and it is unclear how many people are displaced. They are still evaluating the extent of the damage, according to Carrigan.

Wayne Capolupo, who owns several of the properties impacted by the fire, was grateful for the good Samaritans and first responders who he said help saved lives.

“Tonight we suffered a major fire which displaced 5 families. Brave passer-byers took action to help clear the building of residents, putting their own lives in danger until the fire department arrived. We thank them for their heroics,” said Capolupo.

Although, several injuries were sustained, through the grace of God, no lives were lost. For this we are grateful. We thank all of the first responders who worked together under difficult conditions to prevent what could have been a catastrophic outcome in this neighborhood of dozens of very closely constructed wood frame structures,” he concluded.
