NZ PM Jacinda Ardern forced to self-isolate after being deemed a close contact

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has gone into self-isolation after being deemed a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case that was on the same flight as her.

Ms Ardern was on flight NZ8273, which departed from KeriKeri and flew to Auckland on January 22.

The flight has been added to the New Zealand Ministry of Health’s website as a location of interest.

A result from whole genome sequencing for the positive case is expected tomorrow and is expected to reveal that the case is infected with the Omicron variant.

All other passengers on the flight have been deemed close contacts and are required to immediately get tested, self-isolate and remain in quarantine for 10 days since being exposed to the virus.

In a statement Prime Minister Ardern said she is asymptomatic and is feeling well.
