A Massachusetts Department of Transportation worker was struck and killed by a passing vehicle Saturday night. State Police said the person was outside their vehicle picking up debris at the time. This happened Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. near Exit 28B Route 24 northbound in Bridgewater. Police said the vehicle that struck the worker remained on the scene.The MassDOT employee was identified by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office as David Sousa, 57, of Stoughton. State records show he was a highway maintenance foreman who was employed by the state since 2010. The Plymouth County State Police Detective Unit, the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section (CARS), and the Crime Scene Services Section all responded to the scene.For the safety of motorists and responding personnel, all northbound lanes were closed until 1:20 a.m. It remains unclear what led to the debris on the highway. State Police and the DA’s office said the incident remains under investigation.
