Oilers resting Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl for finale vs. Canucks

The Edmonton Oilers are looking ahead to the playoffs by resting their two biggest stars for Friday’s regular season finale against the Vancouver Canucks.

Head coach Jay Woodcroft announced that both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will not play in the game. Mikko Koskinen will start in net to give presumed playoff starter Mike Smith the night off.

McDavid holds an eight-point lead in the Art Ross race entering the final full day of games, all but assuring he’ll win the scoring title for a fourth time in his seven-year career. The 25-year-old old will finish the season with career-highs in goals (44), assists (79) and points (123).

Draisaitl is poised to finish second behind Auston Matthews in total goals (with 55) and he is the only player who collected more than 50 goals and 50 assists this season. His 110 points this season tie his career-high from 2019-20, when he won the Hart Trophy.

The Oilers will host the Los Angeles Kings in their first-round series and every game will be available on SN NOW. A full schedule will be announced soon.
