Two other passengers, his partner and their 28-year-old friend, were taken to Flinders Medical Center in serious but not life-threatening conditions.

The 35-year-old driver of the SUV was in a similarly serious condition and the 17-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi and his passenger suffered serious injuries in the accident.

Patrons on St Patrick’s Day said they could hear the shock from the surrounding pubs.

“They sold out but it was too late, a split second decision to pull out and you know, that’s it,” a witness told 9News.

South Australian Police are investigating the incident.
