One dead, two injured in Mardan police station bomb attack | The Express Tribune

A bomb attack at a police station in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Thursday, killed one and wounded two others.

The attack, which killed the station in-charge Maqsood Chawoki, took place at the Chamtar police station on Nisata road at 11:20 am.

Upon receiving reports, Rescue 1122 ambulances and medical teams were dispatched to the spot.

Locals in the area said that ambulances arrived at the site and rescue operations were completed, while the vicinity has been cordoned off.

Currently, search operations for those involved are underway in the city and it is being said that a suicide bomber had targetted the station.

The attack comes a day after Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the military leadership has called for the formation of a committee to ensure “parliamentary supervision” of the ongoing dialogue with the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Sanaullah, speaking to the media in Islamabad, said that during the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) on Tuesday “unanimous agreement” was expressed over the need for a dialogue to take place with the TTP.

The development came after the military leadership told lawmakers that it was feared that the TTP might join hands with Da’ish Khorasan and Pakistan was compelled to seek a peace deal with the group involved in some of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the country, according to the closed door briefing.

In an in-camera briefing for the members of parliament and other political leaders, the country’s military leadership on Tuesday warned of devastating consequences for the country if the TTP joined hands with the Da’ish terrorist group.
