Danger of looming pandemic not recognised until four days before lockdown, Covid inquiry hears

Health Minister Robin Swann has said he only realised the true scale of the Covid pandemic days before lockdown when he did some calculations about deaths on a sheet of paper — something Scotland’s government had done almost two months earlier.
In evidence to the Covid inquiry, he also accepted Northern Ireland did not prepare as well as it should have done, and accepted responsibility for some of that failure.
