Oxygen masks dropped from overhead on a British Airways flight during a mid-air emergency, which saw the aircraft descend to around 28,000ft. Pictures from onboard flight BA295 show the masks hanging above the cabin after the Heathrow-to-Chicago service fell from around 37,000ft to 9,000ft.
Flight BA295 had reached its cruising altitude of 37,000 feet before descending sharply to around 9,000 feet approximately an hour after leaving Heathrow due to a “technical issue”.
The plane landed safely at Heathrow after a mid-air emergency over Ireland. It was forced to abandon its route and circled over the Bristol Channel before it could land in London at around 5pm. A spokesperson for British Airways said: “The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority, and the aircraft landed safely after our highly-trained pilots returned to Heathrow following a technical issue. Customers disembarked the aircraft normally, and our teams are working to get their travel plans back on track as quickly as possible.”
