Gulshan Devaiah on Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise, says Bollywood is an imaginary name for a place of work : Bollywood News – Bollywood Hungama

Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise is both a shock and a wake-up call for the entire industry. The actor’s sudden tragic death has left people from the industry questioning where they went wrong. While everybody has been mourning his death, it’s difficult for people to accept the news. A lot of actors have also opened up about their battles with mental health issues and there are also some who are calling out Bollywood for its nasty hierarchy.

Taking to his Twitter, Gulshan Devaiah, who was seen in movies like Ram-Leela and Shaitaan, said, “Really sorry to be doing this but Bollywood is not a family , it never was and never will be . If one thinks it’s a family .. there is the problem. Bollywood is an imaginary name for a place of work  that’s it . I am really not trying to put anybody down here & sorry if it seems”.

On hearing of Sushant’s demise’s news, Gulshan had tweeted, “As actors, somewhere deep down inside, we think we know why he did it & that’s why it (is) so disturbing, even if you didn’t know him at all. It’s a hard game to play and he played it very well but the game won in the end”.

Trump Gets Hit With Blunt Fact-Check Over AIDS Vaccine Falsehood

0

Twitter users let out a collective sigh of despair at President Donald Trump’s latest falsehood.

Trump claimed during a White House speech on police reform Tuesday that scientists have “come up with the AIDS vaccine.”

Medical professionals, celebrities, journalists, political commentators and others were quick to fact-check the president’s erroneous claim, reminding him there is currently no vaccine available to prevent people from contracting HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

In response, many of Trump’s critics highlighted his appalling record of telling lies. The Washington Post notes that Trump, as of May 29, had made 19,127 false or misleading claims since his inauguration in January 2017.

“Too bad there isn’t a vaccine for serial liars,” one person responded to the president’s latest fabrication.

Added another: “Fortunately, there is a vaccine for protecting yourself from ignorant, unprepared, emotionally-stunted, racist presidents: Vote.”

Book By Trump’s Niece To Reveal He ‘Derided’ Father’s Alzheimer’s Struggles

0

An upcoming book by President Donald Trump’s niece will detail his “appalling” treatment of his father, Fred Trump, during the years he battled Alzheimer’s disease.

Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist and the president’s only niece, has remained largely silent during her uncle’s rise to the presidency. But her book, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, is promising “unsparing detail” about the president and his relationship with his family when it’s released in this summer.

A description posted online by publisher Simon & Schuster noted:

“She explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who currently occupies the Oval Office, including the strange and harmful relationship between Fred Trump and his two oldest sons, Fred Jr. and Donald.”

Mary Trump will also detail “the appalling way Donald, Fred Trump’s favorite son, dismissed and derided him when he began to succumb to Alzheimer’s.”

Mary Trump is the daughter of Fred Trump Jr., the president’s brother, who battled alcoholism and died in 1981 at the age of 42. Her grandfather, Fred Trump, is the president’s father, who died in 1999 at the age of 93 after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. His death triggered a bitter family legal battle over the will.

Earlier this week, The Daily Beast reported that Mary Trump was the source of a New York Times report on the financial tricks the president used during the 1990s to help his parents duck millions in taxes, which also benefitted him financially.

Trump is considering a lawsuit in an attempt to block the publication of the book, The Times reported.

“[Mary Trump] alone can recount this fascinating, unnerving saga, not just because of her insider’s perspective but also because she is the only Trump willing to tell the truth about one of the world’s most powerful and dysfunctional families,” the Simon & Schuster description stated.

Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man is set for release on July 28.

North Korea television broadcasts explosion of South Korean-shared office

North Korean state television has broadcast footage of the demolition of the inter-Korean-liaison office in Kaesung in North Korean territory.

State broadcaster KRT played the footage of Tuesday’s destruction of several offices – a move which further raised tensions between the two rival countries.

The offices, which were set up in 2018, were empty at the time of destruction.

The site had been effectively abandoned after relations became strained between the two countries.

North Korea said Wednesday it will redeploy troops to now-shuttered inter-Korean cooperation sites, reinstall guard posts and resume military exercises at front-line areas, nullifying the tension-reducing deals reached with South Korea just two years ago.

Military officials for North Korea said it will resume military exercises, reestablish guard posts, boost military readiness in border areas and open front-line sites for flying propaganda balloons toward South Korea.

These steps would end the September 2018 agreements reached between the Koreas aimed at lowering military tensions at border areas.

South Korea’s military expressed regret over the North Korean announcement and warned that the North will face unspecified consequences if it violates the 2018 deals.

Major General Jeon Dong Jin at the Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters that South Korea maintains military readiness and will strive to prevent military tensions from rising. Vice Unification Minister Suh Ho warned against destroying South Korean assets that remain at the two cooperation sites.

Under the 2018 agreements, both Koreas halted live-firing exercises, removed some land mines and destroyed guard posts along the world’s most heavily armed border.

Some experts argued the moves undermined South Korea’s security more than the North’s as Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal remained intact.

Online allyship: a broken game of do like I do – The Mail & Guardian

0

When George Floyd was killed at the hands of four police officers in Minneapolis, United States, the online world rose from its amnesiac slumber.

We remembered the perpetual danger that black folk are subject to. Soon thereafter the killings of Breonna Taylor in the US and of Collins Khosa, Sibusiso Amos, Adane Emmanuel and Petrus Miggels in South Africa resurfaced. In response to this, and in spite of global restrictions on physical mass gatherings, demonstrations against police brutality and systemic racism commenced: first in Minneapolis and then across the world in both physical and online spaces.

Parallel to this, non-black folk have a growing list of dos and don’ts to choose from to either fulfill or perform their allyship under lockdown. The best view can be seen on Instagram.

Logging in to the app every morning, at lunch, and a few times before ending the day, my feed is mostly filled with recommendations and attempts at support.

Sign a petition. Donate money to foundations, food aid, bail funds, black community newsrooms and education programmes aimed at supporting black people. Volunteer. Read revolutionary material by black (preferably queer) scholars, analysts and activists like Audre Lorde, Angela Davis, bell hooks, Frantz Fanon and James Baldwin. Watch the prescribed Netflix documentaries that outline the many (but not all) injustices that black folk are dealt.

If you can go outside to join a protest, take a photographer with you to make sure your support is documented.

Post a black square on Instagram as a part of the #BlackoutTuesday challenge or campaign — depending on who you ask. Follow black thought leaders on social media. Let them flood your feeds. Tune into their podcasts and live streams on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok. Do not share traumatic content.

If you have a large following, let your black colleague or friend take over your Instagram account as a part of the #ShareTheMicNow campaign. Check on your black friends and colleagues to see how they’re doing.

Repost a pastel #BlackLivesMatter illustration from Tumblr without crediting the maker.

Step down from your position of power and insist that a black contemporary replaces you.

Quietly listen to black folk. Reflect on your privilege. Publicly declare your white shame and guilt. Renounce your white privilege. Announce your allyship and make sure your stance is known, to avoid being called out as complicit or complacent.

Rally other non-black folk and encourage them to do the same. Follow. Like. Share. Retweet. Subscribe, rinse and repeat.

For the most part, social media platforms can be a great tool for educating and organising people against injustices. But a lot of the time they allow users to get away with passive activism that hinders allies from committing to long-term, life-long, active and in-depth engagement with marginalised people.

In other instances, passivity can get in the way of real work, like it did when the wrong hashtag affected access to resources. The Black Lives Matter movement began in July 2013. Seven years later, Instagram had a record of just over 11.9-million posts under the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag. This was until #BlackoutTuesday on June 2, when the hashtag became inundated with black squares.

Practitioners in the music industry, Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang, joined forces to encourage Instagram users to spend June 2 reflecting on ways to support the black community. Thomas is the senior director of marketing at Atlantic Records; Agyemang is the senior artist campaign manager at Apple’s record label, Platoon. The proposed hashtag was #TheShowMustBePaused. This would be symbolised by posting a black square. The goal was to reckon with how the music industry continues to profit from black artists.

The first handful of people posted the black square with its proposed hashtag. Others used it to pledge allyship. Not too long after the day began, brands, public figures and influencers jumped on the bandwagon without knowing its background. Like a game of broken telephone, the intention of Blackout Tuesday was lost along the way, because of surface level engagement. By the end of the day more than a million users had posted the black square under the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag.

As a result, the blackout took up space under a hashtag that  activists use to share valuable information, like when and where protests are taking place, the different ways to participate and video evidence of police brutality.

Lest it’s forgotten, the online space encourages users to be performative. Much like post-workout selfies at the gym, airport check-ins, outfit-of-the-day pictures, candid snaps from brunch and charity-work photo ops, the reward of likes for online displays of support can mess with the function of activism.

Likes, like applause, are loaded with approval that can very easily lead allies into believing that a post or two is enough. No one knows the depth of engagement and support taking place offline. And if the displays are fuelled by the need to prove that they feel bad, such engagers can quickly disengage when their feelings of guilt are appeased. This does nothing for the revolution.

Sonam Kapoor misses being on the sets, shares photo from ‘Khoobsurat’ shooting days

Ever since the coronavirus has spread its wings in India, the shooting of various entertainment products such as television shows, movies, web series has been put to halt. Thanks to social media, our favourite celebrities are keeping a touch with their fans by sharing throwback photos, daily updates of quarantine activities, etc. One amongst those is actress Sonam Kapoor who has kept everyone glued to her Instagram handle. In her latest social media post, she opened up about how she is missing being on the sets of films. Not only this, but Sonam also shared a still from her film Khoobsurat in which she played the role of Mili.

The photo which was shared on Instagram showed Sonam was seen wearing a printed white shirt and blue sweater. She was seen holding a sheet of paper in her hands and it seems as if she was rehearsing her lines. The caption read, “Can’t wait to be rehearsing lines, acting and being on set again.. miss it so damn much. This still is from ‘Khoobsurat’. I’ve never felt as joyful playing a character. Mili I love you. @ghoshshashanka @rheakapoor @juhic3 @fawadkhan81 @disneyfilmsindia.”

Have a look at her post here:

Sonam had shared a condolence message for Sushant Singh Rajput and his family, and followed it up with a tweet that read: “Blaming a girlfriend, ex girlfriend, family, colleagues for someone’s death is ignorant and f****ng mean spirited.”

She later started facing heavy trolling on social media after which she penned an appreciation post for husband Anand Ahuja, thanking him for “being extra kind and loving” when she needed the most.  “An appreciation post for my husband. Thank you for being extra kind and loving today. I really needed it. Love you so much,” Sonam wrote on Instagram.

On the professional front, Sonam was last seen in Abhishek Sharma’s directorial The Zoya Factor which also featured South Indian star Dulquer Salmaan. The movie however could not do well at the box office.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s father questioned by police, says he wasn’t aware of the actor’s depression : Bollywood News – Bollywood Hungama

Sushant Singh Rajput’s sudden demise is a loss many still can’t cope with. On Sunday morning, the actor was found dead at his Mumbai residence, and allegedly killed himself by suicide. His family members, including father KK Singh, traveled to Mumbai from Patna for the actor’s funeral.

As part of the investigation, the Mumbai police carried out a number of rounds of questioning various people, and also spoke to Sushant’s father. Reportedly, in his statement, Singh stated that he was unaware of his son suffering from depression, and while the actor would feel low sometimes, the family did not know that he was depressed. As per reports, Singh also did not mention anyone he had any suspicion on.

The police is believed to be getting in touch with the late actor’s friends, two assistants and a few other people soon. Sushant’s former girlfriend Ankita Lokhande, who earlier visited Sushant’s house after the demise, will also be questioned by the police.

Salman Khan’s family takes legal action against ‘Dabangg’ director after his serious allegations

Salman Khan’s family takes legal action against filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap after his serious allegations

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s family has taken legal action against filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, who had accused the Dabangg actor and his family of sabotaging his career.

The Bharat actor’s brother Arbaaz Khan confirmed that the family has taken legal action against Abhinav Kashyap.

He further said that they parted ways with the filmmaker professionally and they had no contact with him since they were shooting Dabangg 2.

Earlier, Dabangg director Kashyap turned to Facebook to pen a lengthy note on Sushant’s apparent suicide and wrote, “The death of Sushant Singh Rajput brings under scanner the role YRF talent Management Agency might have played in pushing him towards his suicide but that is for the authorities to investigate. These people don’t make careers. They ruin your career and life. Having suffered personally for a decade, I can confidently say every Talent Manager and all Talent Management Agencies of Bollywood are a potential death Trap for Artists. They are all basically white collared [expletive] and everyone is involved. They all have an unspoken code of conduct they adhere to.

“My experience is no different. I have experienced exploitation and bullying first hand Arbaaz Khan on Dabangg and ever since.

“The reason I moved out of making Dabangg 2 ten years ago is because Arbaaz Khan in collusion with Sohail Khan and family was trying to take control of my career by bullying me. Arbaaz Khan sabotaged my second project with Shree Ashtavinayak Films that I was signed up with by personally calling their head Mr. Raj Mehta and threatening him with dire consequences if they made a film with me. I had to return the signing money to Shree Ashtavinayak films and moved to Viacom Pictures.

“They did the same thing. Only this time the sabotager was Sohail Khan and he intimidated the then Viacom CEO Vikram Malhotra. Mr. Salman Khan and family sabotaged the release of the film and got their PROs to run a sustained negative smear campaign against me and my film BESHARAM before release.

“They erred and sent some of these threats as texts, sent to me as sms from several numbers. Armed with evidence, I went to the police in 2017 to file an FIR which they refused to register but registered a non-cognizable complaint. My complaint remains open to date and I still have all the evidence.

“I know who my enemies are. Let it be known that they are Salim Khan, Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. There are many other small fry’s but Salman Khan family is the head of this venomous serpant. They use a clever mix of their ill-gotten money, political clout and connections with the underworld to intimidate anyone and everyone. Unfortunately truth is on my side and I am not going to give up like Sushant Singh Rajput. I refuse to cow down and will fight on till I see the end of either them or me. Enough tolerance. Its time to fight back. So this is not a threat, it’s an open challenge,” Kashyap said.

There will be no foreign training of bureaucrats during the ongoing financial year considering the safety and austerity measures being taken by the government due to coronavirus pandemic, the Personnel Ministry has said.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), cadre controlling authorities (ministries concerned) and central training institutes conduct foreign training or have international component as part of the overall training programme.

“Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and in view of the safety measures and financial austerity, all cadre controlling authorities and central training institutes are informed that no foreign training shall be conducted during the current financial year viz. 2020-2021,” it said in a recent order.

“However, under exceptional circumstances, if it is felt necessary to conduct any foreign training, prior approval of DoPT must be obtained,” the order said.

A total of Rs 238.45 crore was allocated to the Personnel Ministry for the current financial year for domestic and foreign training of bureaucrats and augmenting necessary infrastructure, according to the 2020-21 budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in February.

Of these, Rs 83.45 crore was earmarked for the ministry to meet establishment-related expenditure of the Delhi-based Institute of Secretariat Training and Management (ISTM), Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie and training division of the DoPT.

Both the ISTM and the LBSNAA conduct several training programmes for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and all other levels of secretarial functionaries with exposure to rules, regulations and aptitude.

A total of Rs 155 crore was allocated for the ongoing fiscal for a separate component “training schemes”. It includes upgradation of the LBSNAA to a centre of excellence and augmentation of training facilities at ISTM.
