Pakistan arrive in Dublin for T20I series against Ireland without Mohammed Amir

New Delhi,UPDATED: May 8, 2024 16:58 IST

Pakistan cricket team arrived in Dublin on Wednesday, May 08 ahead of their three-match T20I series against Ireland. The Babar Azam-led side will take on Ireland in three T20Is in the city on May 10, 12 and 14 respectively. Pakistan Cricket shared the update with the fans on their X handle along with a video which captured the entire journey of the team from Lahore.

Star players Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, Mohammed Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi amongst others were seen in a jolly good mood as they took the long journey from Lahore with a layover in Dubai. Head coach for the series, Azhar Mahmood, and chief selector Wahab Riaz were also seen accompanying the team.

Meanwhile, star left-arm seamer Mohammed Amir is yet to reach Dublin due to visa issues. According to a report from PTI, Amir applied for an Ireland visa along with his teammates. However, he’s yet to receive it while his teammates are in Dublin.

With the three T20Is being played in a span of four days, the delay in granting a visa to the Pakistan speedster could well mean that he might not feature in any of the three matches on the tour. Notably, the 32-year-old recently came out of his retirement to play for the country again after August 2020.

Pakistan’s packed schedule ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Amir made his comeback in the recently concluded four-match T20I series against New Zealand where he scalped three wickets from three matches with best figures of 2/13 in four overs in the second T20I. The Punjab-born cricketer who’s played 54 T20Is in his career so far will most likely feature in the T20 World Cup 2024 as well.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will next take on England in a four-match T20I series beginning from May 22. Following that, they will lock horns with the USA in their opening fixture of the T20 World Cup 2024. The 2009 champions have been put in Group A alongside Canada, Ireland, USA and arch-rivals India whom they will take on June 9 in New York in a highly anticipated clash.
