Pakistan denounces RSS chief’s ‘delusional’ Partition remarks | The Express Tribune

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan strongly condemned and rejected on Saturday a statement made by the Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat, wherein he called for an ‘undoing’ of the Partition.

The Foreign Office, in a statement issued today, stated that Pakistan “completely rejected the highly provocative and irresponsible remarks”.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar underscored that the RSS chief has publicly indulged in such “delusional thinking and historical revisionism” previously as well.

The spokesperson maintained that Pakistan has “repeatedly highlighted the threat” posed to the regional peace and stability by the “toxic mix of the extremist Hindutva ideology and expansionist foreign policy” being pursued by the ruling RSS-BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) dispensation in India.

“Those belonging to the BJP and its ideological fountainhead RSS would be well advised to refrain from making such provocative and irresponsible statements,” the spokesperson said, adding that the RSS should accept “established realities” and learn to follow the imperatives of peaceful coexistence.

According to the FO, this “dangerous mindset” aimed to “completely marginalise and dispossess the minorities in India”, while posing an existential threat to all neighbours of India.

The world is witness to the systematic usurpation of the rights of minorities, especially Muslims in India, and the unabated repression of Kashmiris in Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the FO spokesperson stated.

Earlier this week the RSS issued a statement quoting Bhagwat wherein he claimed that the India of 2021 was not the same as that in 1947.

“Partition has happened once, it won’t happen again. Those who think that way will face partition themselves,” he said.

The RSS chief said if India wanted to contribute to the world, it would need to become “capable”, adding, “the only solution to the pain of Partition lies in undoing it.”
