Pakistan hails Belt and Road win ‘prematurely’ as polls draw near

ISLAMABAD — When China and Pakistan partnered on infrastructure projects under the Beijing Belt and Road Initiative, Karachi businessman Saeed (not his real name) hoped to sell many spare parts used in power plants.

Nearly a decade later, he only expresses his disappointment in the roughly $50 billion venture known as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). “I didn’t get any business from CPEC because I bought all the materials from Chinese companies,” he complained.
