The country recorded its highest death toll from the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic on Wednesday as at least 135 people succumbed to the virus over the last 24-hours.Â
Pakistan’s death toll from the deadly contagion now stands at 15,754.
Most Covid-19 deaths occurred in Punjab followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), according to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
According to the NCOC, at least 4,681 new coronavirus cases were reported in the country during the last 24 hours, taking Pakistan’s Covid-19 tally to 734,423.
Meanwhile, 3,645 patients recovered from the deadly disease during the day taking total recoveries to 641,912.
According to NCOC, the total number of active Covid-19 cases across the country is 76,757.
The highest number of ventilators occupied in the country were in Gujranwala with 88 per cent occupancy, followed by Multan at 81 per cent, Lahore at 79 per cent and Islamabad at 51 per cent.

The NCOC further reported that the highest number of oxygen bed occupancy in the country was in Swabi at 95 per cent followed by Charsadda with 93 per cent, Gujranwala with 85 per cent and Peshawar at 74 per cent.
About 48,092 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours out of which 10,176 were conducted in Sindh, 22,781 in Punjab, 6,874 in K-P, 5,493 in Islamabad, 1,230 in Balochistan, 535 in G-B and 1,003 tests were conducted in AJK.
Covid-19 related death by province
Out of the total 15,754 reported deaths, there have been at least 4,530 deaths in Sindh, 7,141 in Punjab, 2,732 in K-P, 619 in Islamabad.
About 219 deaths were reported in Balochistan, 103 deaths in G-B and 410 in AJK.
The NCOC also reported that a total of 10,878,086 tests had been conducted since the outbreak of the virus. There are about 630 hospitals with Covid-19 facilities with more than 5,000 patients admitted across the country, it added.
