Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Friday his visit to Goa was a “success” as he pleaded his country’s case on Indian soil.
His comments came hours after his Indian counterpart, S Jaishankar, accused him of being a “promoter, justifier and mouthpiece of a terror industry”.
Addressing a press conference after her return from Goa, where she attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting, Bhutto Zardari said her trip to India was a “success” as it helped disprove the view that every Muslim is a terrorist.
“We made an attempt to break this myth,” Bhutto-Zardari said.
Jaishankar mounted an offensive against Bhutto-Zardari in his speech at the SCO meeting, contradicting the Pakistani foreign minister’s statement that terrorism should not be “weaponized to score diplomatic points,” in comments seen as directed at India.
Hours later, at a press conference, Jaishankar said that Bhutto-Zardari’s statement on the use of terrorism as a weapon unconsciously revealed a mindset.
“As the foreign minister of a SCO member state, Bhutto-Zardari was treated accordingly. As a promoter, justifier and mouthpiece of a terrorism industry, which is the mainstay of Pakistan, her positions were denounced and countered, including at the SCO meeting itself,” Jaishankar said.
Responding to a question about talks with India, Bhutto-Zardari said it was clear to Pakistan that India should create an environment conducive to talks by restoring Kashmir’s pre-August 5, 2019 status.
He also said that Central Asian countries hoped to become part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
He said that all countries except India supported and praised CPEC.
Earlier, Bhutto-Zardari returned on a special Pakistan Air Force plane from India and landed in Karachi, where she was received by Sindh Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah and other cabinet members.
